EAST NORRITON, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation will distribute
approximately 31,000 brand-new winter coats to area children in need
during the month of October. The effort is part of the Foundation’s
Driving Away the Cold program, which will kick off its distribution
activities on October 3 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. On this
day, approximately 6,000 new winter coats will be donated specifically
to the School District of Philadelphia. In addition, the Foundation will
also present a $50,000 check to Mayor Michael Nutter at the event in
support of the Philadelphia Education Supplies Fund.
“The 180 area auto dealers who make up this Foundation are dedicated to
improving the lives of children living throughout the Greater
Philadelphia region,” said Kevin Mazzucola, executive director of the
Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. “Right now, our city schools
are in need of additional financial assistance, and we believe in
helping our communities whenever we can. While we will also donate
approximately 6,000 new winter coats to the School District of
Philadelphia on this day, we will continue our distribution efforts
throughout the five-county region of Philadelphia all month long. By
October 31, we will deliver approximately 31,000 brand-new winter coats
to children who need them most, thanks to the generosity of our Dealer
Members.”
Developed in January 2008 by the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids
Foundation, Driving Away the Cold is a philanthropic initiative with one
important mission—to provide new winter coats to underprivileged
children living in the five-county region of Philadelphia. The coats are
raised via a special month-long program where participating dealers
pledge a brand-new winter coat each time a vehicle is sold at their
dealerships. Since the program’s inception, the Foundation, along with
its participating Dealer Members, has warmed the hearts of more than
109,000 area children in need (total does not include 2013 numbers yet).
“A new winter coat is one of the most requested items via social
services agencies, homeless shelters, school nurses and more,” added
Mazzucola. “We believe it warms both the body and soul of children and
supercharges their self-esteem and reminds them that they are important.”
The Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation extends its gratitude to
Chester County-based Operation Warm, which will help secure the amount
of pledged coats through its respective coat suppliers. For a full list
