3 Big Reasons to Take Severe Anxiety Seriously

One in four Americans may suffer from an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. Yes, it is that common! People suffering from severe anxiety have to put up with panic attacks which occur without any warning but which have crippling effects on a person’s ability to work and socialize. Usually depression cannot be neatly separated from anxiety so thoughts of suicide and self injury are also great threats to a person’s well being and life. This is one big reason to take severe anxiety seriously.

The second big reason to take severe anxiety seriously is the fact that it can destroy a person’s career and relationship. There are countless stories of people who cannot function anymore in meetings or social gatherings and worry constantly about their loved ones. I know others who have tried the anti-anxiety medicines to little or no effect and others who have tried cognitive therapy and even hypnotherapy.

The third big reason to take severe anxiety disorder seriously is that it cannot be ignored. As the pressures, worry and stress increase, the person begins to overheat, just like a car engine which has been running for too long and too fast. When a panic attack occurs, the car stops.

What is the best treatment for severe anxiety? Many patients are first put on drugs like Celexa which is one of the very popular SSRIs on the market now. But this can sometimes be insufficient to cope with the continuous wearing down of the person’s mood caused by severe anxiety and sometimes a longer acting antianxiety med like Buspar or Klonopin is prescribed. However unless the patient is able to come to terms with coping with the cause of his anxiety, then the medicines prescribed will not be effective or even beneficial in the long term.

Opting for psychiatric treatment or counselling can be beneficial as well as trying self help techniques like writing therapy, having supportive friends and partners, looking after your health. These can all help to reduce anxiety and help to get to the root of the problem. Many patients just cannot stand the side effects of the anti depressant medications and seek naturopathy which have hardly any side effects and are just as effective. St. John’s Wort is known as nature’s Prozac. Click on the link to find out why this treatment could be the answer to severe anxiety disorder.
